UnitedHealthcare will not be offering coverage in the exchange (but it will be available for small group plans). Currently, 13% of those enrolled in Louisiana have UnitedHealthcare, so this will be a large swing in coverage to another carrier. This is particularly concerning because UnitedHealthcare offered one of the lower priced options in the state. Humana does have plans to stay in Louisiana for 2017 but they have exited a handful of other states recently, which means they may leave in 2018.
Louisiana Plan Rates Increase in 2017
All carriers are requesting a rate increase of over 20% but it is anticipated that the subsidies will increase as well to offset the increased cost. This will be critical for 93% of the state that receives subsidies to help pay for their insurance.
